ܥܪܒܠܐ

Assyrian Neo-Aramaic

Etymology

Root
ܥ ܪ ܒ ܠ (ˁ r b l)
1 term

Inherited from Aramaic [Term?] and of the noun pattern 1i23ālā; compare Classical Syriac ܥܲܪܒܵܠܵܐ. Also loaned into Old Armenian խարբալեմ (xarbalem) and Arabic غِرْبَال (ḡirbāl); the Arabic vowels may represent a borrowing from an unattested variant of this word similar in NENA. Possibly ultimately of Hurrian origin; see the latter two for more.
