Borrowed from Classical Persian هِدَایَت (hidāyat), borrowed from Arabic هِدَايَة (hidāya), from هَدَى (hadā).[1][2][3] First attested in c. 1421 as Middle Hindi ہدایت (hdayt /hidāyat/).[4]
