مقلاد

Tool noun derivative of إِقْلِيد (ʔiqlīd, “key”).

مِقْلَاد • (miqlād) m (plural مَقَالِيد (maqālīd))

1. key

   Synonym: مِفْتَاح (miftāḥ)

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 42:12:

     لَهُ مَقَالِيدُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَيَقْدِرُ إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

     lahu maqālīdu s-samāwāti wālʔarḍi yabsuṭu r-rizqa liman yašāʔu wayaqdiru ʔinnahu bikulli šayʔin ʕalīmun

     To Him pertain the keys of the heavens and the earth. He extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is of all things knowing.

   يَسْمَحُ مِقْلَادٌ بِمُرُورِ التَّيَّارِ الْكَهْرَبَائِيِّ عِنْدَ إِغْلَاقِهِ وَيَمْنَعُ الْمُرُورَ عِنْدَ فَتْحِهِ

   yasmaḥu miqlādun bimurūri t-tayyāri l-kahrabāʔiyyi ʕinda ʔiḡlāqihi wayamnaʕu l-murūra ʕinda fatḥihi

   A switch allows the passage of electric current when it is turned on and prevents its passage when it is turned off.
