Etymology
Probably a back-formation from لال بیگی (lāl begī, “Lal Begi”), the name of a Dalit community whose traditional occupation is sweeping, due to the large presence of cockroaches in work environments of sweepers.
Also influenced by لال (lāl, “red”).
