Etymology 1
From earlier كلاس (kelâs, keles), ultimately from Ancient Greek Κολόη (Kolóē), the ancient name of the town, perhaps through its genitive form Κολόης (Kolóēs) or from a demonym. Not related to كراز (kiraz, “cherry”).
