Harfouche; طَبَش (ṭabaš, “to break”) implies a movement involving projection of the object, which then breaks from the shock; the informant in reality used it for a cane as an equivalent of كَسَر (kasar, “to break”, without implying anything about the manner of breaking); perhaps it has a more-widespread usage in his village. One may also say: طْبُوش البَاب (ṭbōš l-bēb, “shove the door (in order to close it)”) (although this is better translated as etymology 1.1 sense 1 above), and this implies an energetic movement.
