Likely a blend of סַם (sam, “poison, venom”) + אֵל (ʔel, “god”), literally "poison of God." Alternatively, perhaps a blend of סוֹמֵא (someʔ, “blind”) + אֵל (ʔel, “god”), literally "blind one of God."
