  • Commonly respelt as such, replacing ־יי־ (-ey-) with ־עי־ (-ey-), due to ־יי־ (-ey-) typically being pronounced /aɪ̯/ as opposed to /ɛɪ̯/ in American Yiddish which largely descends from Poylish. Also occurs in other relatively ad-hoc English borrowings, for instance גרעיווי (greyvi, “gravy”) as opposed to *גרייווי (*greyvi).
