Ket

Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Ketic *Quk (“Yenisei river”), derived from Proto-Yeniseian *quk (“hole in ground or snow”). In Ket and Yug myths, the legendary hero Alba cut through a hole in rocks so that the Yenisei could flow northwards, hence the name.[1] Alternatively, analyzable as derived from Ket ӄук (qūk, “hole”).
