Most likely borrowed from Carpathian Rusyn елефа́нт (elefánt), *єлефа́нт (*jelefánt), from Old Ruthenian елефантъ (elefant), from Old Church Slavonic елефантъ (elefantŭ), ultimately from Ancient Greek ἐλέφᾱς (eléphās).
