Etymology 1

Inherited from Proto-Yeniseian *pʰɯj (stomach; lower front part of abdomen). Possibly related to Ket хыль (hɨ̄lʲ, entrails, colon), from Proto-Yeniseian *pʰɯλ (colon), and possibly further related to Kott and Arin words meaning 'breast', from Proto-Yeniseian *pʰa (breast).[1]

The second sense is derived from the first.
