Etymology 1
Inherited from Proto-Yeniseian *pʰɯj (“stomach; lower front part of abdomen”). Possibly related to Ket хыль (hɨ̄lʲ, “entrails, colon”), from Proto-Yeniseian *pʰɯλ (“colon”), and possibly further related to Kott and Arin words meaning 'breast', from Proto-Yeniseian *pʰa (“breast”).[1]
The second sense is derived from the first.
