френка
Macedonian
Etymology
Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish فرنك (frenk, “western”), from Classical Persian فرنگ (farang), from Old French franc. The usage of it to mean "tomato" originates from a shortening of Ottoman Turkish فرنك پاتلجانی (frenk patlıcanı, “tomato”, literally “western eggplant”) or فرنك الماسی (frenk elması, “tomato”, literally “western apple”).
