Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Yeniseian *tʲʌŋʌ (“hair”, on the head),[1][2] possibly but not definitely derived from Proto-Yeniseian *tʲʌg (“head”) + Proto-Yeniseian *qagaŋ (“hair (on the body)”).

(Editor's note: Albeit the compound word origin for this term may remain questionable, one should also note the different comparata used by SLDB and CHYD. The Kott and Arin comparata is completely missing from CHYD, which feature it under Proto-Yeniseian *qagaŋ (“hair (on the body)”) instead. Instead, this term, for as far as the CHYD is concerned, only has one intra-Yeniseian comparatus, which is the poorly recorded Pumpokol term, Pumpokol tümen (tɨmen?, “hair”, plurale tantum?).

One should also note that SLDB does not distinguish between the terms 'hair (on the body)' and 'hair (on the head)', which is very much distinguished in the terms given by dictionaries.)
