Borrowed from Russian сорок (sorok, “forty”).[1]
Regarding historical context, Ket speakers originally used a native numeral for '40'; s̄jakpas or s̄iem-chogem, as recorded by Heinrich J. von Klaproth in early nineteenth century,[2] but we see Russian loans from the records by the eighteenth century travellers' recordings of the Ket language, and then ultimately on Modern Ket. These travellers and their recorded forms, are, namely, Gerhard F. Müller (соѣлук)[3] and Daniel G. Messerschmidt (soluck-schà).[4][5]

Usage notes
- The forms given by BSKJa suggest that this term is used with second tone (сёʼль (soˀlʲ)) instead of fourth tone (sòlʲ). It should be noted, however, that despite these forms being able to be elicited from some speakers, native counting barely goes above 20 nowadays.[6]
