Inherited from Proto-Ketic *senam (“shamaness, female shaman”), derived from Proto-Yeniseian *senʌŋ (“shaman, male shaman”) + Proto-Yeniseian *qim ~ *qem (“woman”).[1]
Alternatively, analyzable as a reductive compound of сенаӈ m (sénaŋ, “shaman, male shaman”) + ӄим (qīm, “woman”).
