Ukrainian
Etymology
From покрити (pokryty) + -шка (-ška).
Pronunciation 1
- IPA(key): [ˈpɔkreʃkɐ]
Noun
по́кришка • (pókryška) f inan (genitive по́кришки, nominative plural по́кришки, genitive plural по́кришок)
Pronunciation 2
- IPA(key): [pɔˈkrɪʃkɐ]
Noun
покри́шка • (pokrýška) f inan (genitive покри́шки, nominative plural покри́шки, genitive plural покри́шок)
- (automotive) (tire-)cover, tire
Usage notes
Strictly speaking, покры́шка refers to a tire in which air is not within the tire itself, but is retained in the space between the tire and the rim by an airtight seal, and which today is often called a "tubeless tire." This is distinguished from a ши́на (šýna), which today is often called an "inner tube" (in which an inflatable tube contains air within itself). However, outside of mechanical circles, the words покры́шка and ши́на are often used interchangeably.
