Likely related to оңаша (oñaşa, “apart”), compare rare intermediate forms: оңшау (oñşau), оқаша (oqaşa). Relationship with Kyrgyz обочо (oboco) is unclear: the Kyrgyz word is derived from обоо (oboo, “stone hill”).
