ломань
Erzya
Etymology
From Proto-Mordvinic *lomań, wherein *-ń may be a noun suffix, as in Erzya сёвонь (śovoń, “clay”). The further origin is uncertain. Sometimes compared with Proto-Samic *olmōńčë, whence Kildin Sami олмэнч (olmenč, “person, human”).
According to Tsygankin, the word was borrowed from an Iranian language and is related to the dialectal Eastern Mari ульмо (uĺmo, “husband, man”).
