Etymology
From Proto-Slavic *vařenьje. By surface analysis, вари́ть (varítʹ, “to boil”) + -е́нье (-énʹje). Doublet of варе́ние (varénije, “the process of boiling”), through a cognate suffix, -е́ние (-énije).
