алабраце
Bulgarian
Etymology
According to Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary, from Romanian la brața, with given meaning “under arm”. The collocation la braț (literally “in/at arm”) can be found in Romanian dictionaries with this meaning. Note also that la means “in, at”, and brațe is the plural of braț (“arm”), giving a compound meaning of “in arms”, although this is not the analysis given by BED.
On the contrary, it claims that the final /a/ of la brața was adapted into Bulgarian as /ɛ/ due to analogy with other Bulgarian adverbs in -е (-e), e.g. добре́ (dobré), зле (zle), го́ре (góre); and also, perhaps with ръце́ (rǎcé).
Further, the initial а- (a-) is from conflation with ала́ (alá), such as is used in ала турка (ala turka).
