ψώνιο

Inherited from Byzantine Greek ψώνι (psṓni), ψώνιν (psṓnin), from Hellenistic Koine Greek ὀψώνιον (opsṓnion, “salary; provisions”). The "foolish, naive" sense is attested since the Medieval period,^[1] perhaps with sense development along the lines of "provisions" > "one's owned habits and pastimes" > "one overly invested in one's hobbies" > "weirdo, fool".
