Etymology
Inherited from Byzantine Greek χλομός (khlomós), from an unattested *φλομός (*phlomós) with dissimilation *φ- (*ph-) > χ- (kh-), from Ancient Greek φλόμος (phlómos, “mullein (plant)”), a plant known for its pale coloration and potentially poisonous seeds.[1]
