Etymology

Contracted from φάος (pháos). After the contraction, the original s-stem was changed into a t-stem φωτ- (phōt-), following ἔρως (érōs), stem ἐρωτ- (erōt-) and χρώς (khrṓs), stem χρωτ- (khrōt-).[1]
