Etymology

By surface analysis, σόλοικος (sóloikos) +‎ -ίζω (-ízō). Beekes suggests that the term was formed from Σόλοι (Sóloi) +‎ -ίζω (-ízō), as the residents of the city of Soli in Cilicia were known for speaking an improper form of Greek.
