κύτινος
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Because of the meaning "calyx", connected with κῠ́τος (kŭ́tos, “hollow; vessel”). However, Furnée compares κῠ́τᾰρον (kŭ́tăron, “spoon”), κῠ́δᾰρος (kŭ́dăros, “small ship”), κῠ́ττᾰρος (kŭ́ttăros, “cell of a honeycomb”) and κῠττός (kŭttós, “receptacle”). This points to a Pre-Greek word.
