ζῠγόν • (zŭgón) n (genitive ζῠγοῦ); second declension

1. yoke, for joining animals
2. yoke, burden
3. in general, anything which joins two pieces together: cross-bar, plank, beam
4. the balancing beam of a scale; the scale itself
5. (astrology) the constellation Libra
6. rank (of soldiers)

• Along with ᾠόν (ōión), λουτρόν (loutrón) and πτερόν (pterón), this is one of the very few neuter nouns that does not have a recessive accent.
