Etymology
εν- (en-, “in-”) + ημέρα (iméra, “day”) + -ος (-os, “adjectival suffix”), i.e. "aware of the day's events", formed as a calque of French à jour (“up to date”) based on the model of older terms such as ἐφήμερος (ephḗmeros, “short-lived”). Attested since 1871.[1]
