From γᾰ́μος (gắmos, marriage; matrimony) +‎ -έω (-éō, denominative verbal suffix).

  2. (middle voice) to give oneself in marriage; to marry (a man)
  3. (middle voice) to get a spouse for; to betroth (generally of parents for their children)
  4. to take (a woman) as a lover
  5. (euphemistic) to have sex with
