βαυκός

Ancient Greek

Etymology

According to Beekes this is probably a Pre-Greek word; he further compares other adjectives, such as γλαυκός (glaukós), σαυκός (saukós), φολκός (pholkós), for the suffix. The connection with βαυκίδες (baukídes, woman's shoes) remains still unclear.
