Etymology
Compound of Şahin + bey, after Şahin Bey, the commander of the Turkish revolutionaries that were stationed in the city of Gaziantep during the Turkish War of Independence. This is one of the two districts, together with Şehitkamil, into which the central district of Gaziantep was divided in 1987.
