Etymology

Metathesis of Andalusian Arabic *سَفُنَّارْيَة (*safunnārya), from Arabic إِسْفَنَارِيَّة (ʔisfanāriyya), from Ancient Greek σταφυλίνη ἀγρία (staphulínē agría, wild carrot).Found in a document in Spanish with heavy Leonese influence dating to the 15th century.[1]
