Yongle (simplified Chinese: 永乐; traditional Chinese: 永樂) was the era name of the Yongle Emperor, the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty. During the Yongle era, the Ming Dynasty was powerful and prosperous, and its economy developed continuously. It is known in history as the "Yongle Golden Age".
The Yongle Emperor was originally proclaimed Yan Wang (燕王) in 1402(Jianwen 4) He seized the throne in the Jingnan campaign and changed the era from "Jianwen 4" to "Hongwu 35". Originally, his new era name was planned to be "Yongqing", but it was later changed to "Yongle".[1][2]
September 7, 1424 (Yongle 22, 15th day of the 8th month) Hongxi Emperor, the Yongle Emperor's eldest son, succeeded his father to the throne and continued to use the Yongle era name, changing it to Hongxi the following year.[3][4]
Events
- Yongle 1 (1403)
- 1st month: A banquet in the Hall of Central Harmony was held. Beiping was proclaimed the capital, and the name was changed from Beiping to Beijing.
- Yongle 2 (1404)
- 4th month: Dao Yan is appointed as the prince's tutor, Yao is surname restored, and he is given the name Guangxiao. Prince Zhu Gaochi is made crown prince, Prince Zhu Gaoxu is made Prince of Han, and Prince Zhu Gaosui is made Prince of Zhao.
- Yongle 3 (1405)
- 5th month: Zheng He, the great eunuch, is sent west to explore the sea.
