Walter George Hepburne-Scott, 9th Lord Polwarth
Walter George Hepburne-Scott was the 9th Lord Polwarth (1864–1944), a Scottish peer, Lord Lieutenant, and public servant.[1]
Biography
Walter George Hepburne-Scott was born on February 7, 1864, in Edinburgh, Scotland, and died on August 24, 1944. He was the son of the 8th Lord Polwarth, Walter Hugh Hepburne-Scott. He married Edith Frances Buxton in 1888 and they had children. He attended Eton College and graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge. He succeeded to the title of Lord Polwarth in 1920 and received an honorary LL.D. in 1937.
Career and Public Service
Lord Polwarth served in various roles including Lieutenant-Colonel and Honorary Colonel in the military, and chairman of the General Board of Commissioners in Lunacy of Scotland and the Prison Commission of Scotland. He was a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for several shires. He served as the Lord-Lieutenant of East Lothian from 1937 until his death. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1919.[1]
