Veaceslav Jiglițchi

Veaceslav Jiglițchi (born 6 February 1970 in Slobozia, Moldavian SSR) is a Moldovan sculptor known for monumental and public sculpture. He lives and works in Chișinău, Moldova.[1]

Biography

Veaceslav Jiglițchi studied at the Alexei Shchusev Art School and the Alexandru Plămădeală College of Arts. In 1995, he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău.[2][3] He has participated in exhibitions since 1993 and has been a member of the Union of Artists of Moldova since 1994.[4]

Work

Veaceslav Jiglițchi is the author of numerous public sculptures and monuments installed in Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine. His works include urban sculptures, fountains, busts, and memorial monuments.[5]

Between 2015 and 2023, he created and installed several busts of King Ferdinand I in various Moldovan towns, including Rezina, Varnița, Nisporeni, Orhei, Verejeni, Bălți, and Curătura.[6][7]

In 2020, the National Bank of Moldova issued a commemorative silver coin based on his design, titled My Doctor – My Hero, dedicated to medical workers.[8][9]

Awards

In 2022, Veaceslav Jiglițchi was awarded the Polish medal Meritorious for Polish Culture for his contribution to the promotion of Polish cultural heritage in Moldova.[10]

He is also an honorary citizen of Chișinău.
