Uneizah, or Qasr Uneizah, (Arabic: قصر عنيزة) is a historical site located in Al-Husseiniya District in the Ma'an Governorate, about 36 kilometers north of the city of Ma'an, along the Amman–Aqaba desert highway.[1]
Geography
Uneizah rises to an elevation of about 1,000 meters above sea level.[2]
Name
It was named after Jabal Uneizah, which is known for its black volcanic stone.[3]
Archaeological Landmarks
- Uneizah Castle, an Ottoman fortress built during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent to protect pilgrims traveling along the Hajj route.[4]
- Hejazi Railway Station, an archaeological train station.
- A water reservoir (water cistern).
- Jabal Uneizah.
