Tin Ha Wan Village

Tin Ha Wan Village (Chinese: 田下灣村) is a village in the Hang Hau area of Sai Kung District, New Territories, Hong Kong.

Administration

Tin Ha Wan Village is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy.[1]

History

The current Tin Ha Wan Village is a resite village that was relocated together with the nearby Fat Tau Chau Village in the early 1990s. The historical location of Tin Ha Wan was in a bay near Fat Tong Chau. It comprised two settlements, Sheung Lau Wan and Ha Lau Wan, and had a population of 96 in 1955.[2] Tin Ha Wan Village, since its resettlement in the early 1990s, has become increasingly integrated into the urban fabric of Tseung Kwan O New Town. As part of the Phase II/III expansion of Hong Kong's New Town developments, villages including Tin Ha Wan were included in planning frameworks that provided enhanced transport links, public utilities, and community facilities. Hang Hau, where Tin Ha Wan is located, has transformed significantly, with many recognized villages now surrounded by large housing estates, improved road networks, and access to public transit via Hang Hau station on the metro line. This has shifted the village from its original bayside fishing, village character to a hybrid of traditional village and suburban fringe settlement. The change reflects broader patterns in Sai Kung District with land reclamation and redevelopment progressively altering coastal and village landscapes.[3]
