The Unreconstructed M
"The Unreconstructed M" is a science fiction novelette by Philip K. Dick, first published in the January 1957 issue of Science Fiction Stories and later in The Minority Report.[1][2] The story is in the public domain.[3]
In it, an independent researcher, David Lantano, uncovers a plot to falsify evidence in a world where the technology used to solve crimes has advanced.[4] The name of the main character in "The Unreconstructed M" would reappear in Dick's novel 1964 The Penultimate Truth.[5]
"In effect, with "The Unreconstructed M" PKD had terminated his career as a short-story science fiction writer. He wished now to become a writer of mainstream or literary novels, many of which he wrote in the five years between 1955 and 1964".[6]
