Tömör-Ochiryn Tulga received a silver medal at the 2025 World Championships in the men's freestyle 70 kg after controversially losing the final round
In the semifinals, he beat the current world champion Nurkozha Kaipanov from Kazakhstan with a score of 5-2. He then faced Japan's Yoshinosuke Aoyagi in the final round.
In the first period, Tulga scored a point due to his activity, then the Japanese wrestler dropped Tulga on his back and scored 2 points.
In the second period, Tulga began to use a different tactic - he began to push his opponent off the mat on equal terms. However, having pushed his opponent out the first time, Tulga did not receive a point, at the same time Aoyagi, in a counterattack outside the mat, two legs were off the mat, also pushed Tulga out of the mat and received a point. The score became 3-1 in favor of Aoyagi. The Mongolian side filed a justified protest against Aoyagi's counterattack that earned the point, however the judges did not support the protest, so the Mongolian wrestler lost another point. The score became 4-1.
Tulga, being in the ground position, pushed his opponent off the mat, but the judges did not give vested point. The Mongolian wrestler, being in the ground position again, pushed the Japanese off the mat for the third time and did not get well-deserved point, simultaneously Aoyagi in a counterattack also pushed Tulga off the mat and got a point, although according to the current rules, after a wrestler has pushed his opponent off the mat first, the match is stopped and both wrestlers must return to the center and continue match. The score became 5-1.
In the last seconds of the match, Tulga successfully put his opponent to the classic ground position (two knees and two hands touched the mat) using foot sweep, and again did not receive required 2 points by current rules. From the beginning to the end of match, he constantly attacked and wrestled at a high intensity pace. This is confirmed by the video recording.[8]
