Sophie Eaton (born 23 April 2007) is an Australian rules footballer who has been drafted to play for Port Adelaide Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW) competition, starting in the 2026 season. She was selected by Port Adelaide with pick 17 in the 2025 AFLW Draft, having previously played state league football with Central District in the SANFL Women’s League (SANFLW).

Early life

Eaton was born in South Australia and grew up in a regional community. She began playing Australian rules football at a young age with the Freeling Football Club and competed in mixed-gender and girls’ competitions. During her junior years, she represented South Australia in under-age squads and participated in national championships, where she gained recognition from AFLW talent scouts.[1]

State league career

Eaton made her senior debut for Central District in the SANFL Women’s League as a teenager. She played in several positions, including midfield, wing, and half-back. Analysts noted her versatility and consistent performances throughout the season.[2]

She represented South Australia at under-age national championships, where she was named Most Valuable Player for her team.[3]

AFLW career

Eaton was selected by Port Adelaide with pick 17 in the 2025 AFLW Draft. She is set to begin her AFLW career in the 2026 season as a midfielder and utility player.[4]
