Soledad Rodríguez Zubieta (professionally known as SRZ) is an Argentine psychologist, music curator, radio host and DJ. She is known for author-driven music programming on FM radio and for applying curatorial methods to sound design in the hospitality and retail sectors.[1]

Early life and education

Rodríguez Zubieta earned a degree in psychology from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).[2][3] She later completed postgraduate studies in cultural and content management.[4]

Her work has been covered in English-language media such as Discogs DigsVinylogue feature[1] and the Japan-based, English-language magazine SHIFT City Guide,[5] as well as in Spanish outlets including El País Semanal[6] and broadcasters such as Onda Cero.[7] She has also been profiled by Argentine national newspapers including La Nación and Clarín, and the business daily El Cronista.[8][2][3] As a DJ, Rodríguez Zubieta has performed at brand events, fashion shows, cultural programmes and independent-party circuits, including Buenos Aires Fashion Week shows for labels such as Prüne, product launches and communication campaigns for companies such as Maybelline New York, IBM, Avon and Kenzo, and gastronomic and art events at venues including the Faena Art Center and the Usina del Arte.[9][10][11]

Radio programming and presentation

Active in Argentine FM since the 2000s, Rodríguez Zubieta worked for years as a selector and musical programmer before moving on-air.[8] In 2018 she created and hosted Musicology on Radio con Vos 89.9; recordings of the Radio con Vos broadcasts were subsequently made available via podcast feeds and radio archives, without the show continuing as a separate production after her tenure at the station.[8][12] Musicology featured a recurring segment titled Discopedia, in which veteran broadcaster Lalo Mir joined Rodríguez Zubieta to delve into the history and discography of a seminal artist; contemporary program listings and podcast entries document the segment on multiple episodes.[12][13][14]

Between 2003 and 2015, at Metro 95.1 (Radio Metro), Rodríguez Zubieta developed author-driven weekend morning strands. On Fresh (Saturdays) she took full curatorial charge—selecting and editing the music and preparing the final version for broadcast—with a recognisable sonic identity on air and in the channel’s imaging. On Brunch and Su atención por favor she served as the programme’s music selector; in the latter she also maintained a regular new-music segment. In each case, music curation was under her remit and set the aesthetic guidelines of the strand.[15][16][17]

Commentary on her broadcast work highlights an author-driven, cross-genre method: instead of single-format rotations, her shows thread selections from different decades and scenes into mood- and story-led sequences, a curatorial logic later applied to venue programming.[8][2][1]

Music direction and hospitality work

Rodríguez Zubieta works as a music director and curator for hospitality and cultural venues in Argentina, Spain and France.[6][7] In Buenos Aires, she helped shape the musical concept of Isabel—an emblematic Palermo venue frequently noted for its design-led ambiance and sound[5][18]—and Isabel Buenos Aires is credited to restaurateur-designer Juan Santa Cruz, who later established the London restaurants Casa Cruz and Isabel and expanded to New York with Casa Cruz on the Upper East Side.[19][20][21]

At the Faena Hotel, Rodríguez Zubieta held a weekly DJ residency and in 2012 was responsible for the hotel’s music programming.[15] She later became one of the resident selectors at the Pony Line bar of the Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires, where the city tourism authority lists “DJ SRZ” among its regular DJs.[22][23] As of October 2025, her hospitality portfolio included projects for the Hotel Pulitzer in Paris and for Iberostar hotels and resorts.[7]

Modular Música

In 2009 Rodríguez Zubieta founded Modular Música (often styled Modular), a bespoke music-programming practice for retail, restaurants, hotels and private spaces.[7] Reporting describes a two-stage method in which she develops or advises on a venue or brand’s sonic identity and then provides ongoing musicalisation aligned with that identity across service periods and touchpoints.[6][3] English-language coverage has also associated her venue work and consultancy with an eclectic, narrative-led style.[1]

Concepts and approach

Rodríguez Zubieta has articulated an approach that treats music as part of spatial and experience design—sometimes described as "sound decoration"—emphasising mood, narrative flow and psychological impact in specific contexts.[4] In 2025, El País Semanal reported that she formulated the idea of decoración sonora (“sound decoration”) roughly sixteen years earlier, applying curatorial criteria to the design of hotels, cafés and other commercial spaces.[6]
