Selec

Selec (Hungarian: Szelec) is a village and municipality in Trenčín District in the Trenčín Region of north-western Slovakia.

The village was first mentioned in historical records of 1439. During World War II, on the December 3, 1944, German troops invaded the village and arrested 56 men from the village for help to partisans. 50 from them have been later taken to the concentration camps where 45 of them died.

The municipality lies at an altitude of 323 metres (1,060 ft)^[3] and covers an area of 24.80 km² (9.58 sq mi) (2024).^[4] From a geomorphological point of view of the village lies in Fatra-Tatra Area in the northern part of the Považský Inovec Mts.

It has a population of 1007 people (31 December 2024).^[6]

In year 2021 was 1007 people by ethnicity 991 as Slovak, 16 as Czech, 9 as Not found out, 3 as Russian, 2 as Other, 1 as Turkish, 1 as Italian, 1 as Silesian and 1 as Hungarian.

For example, a student is a citizen of a village because he has permanent residence there (he lived there as a child and has parents), but most of the time he studies at a university in the city.
