Sandra Chidinma Duru
Professor Sandra Chidinma Duru is an innovative scholar-practitioner and global advocate with over 20 years of leadership in public policy, governance, gender security, and strategic communication.[1]
Education
Duru obtained a PhD in Public Policy & Administration from African American University (2025), where her dissertation examined the weaponisation of gender-based laws and their effects on public administration. She also holds degrees from Escae Benin University, a certificate from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and various honorary titles from international institutions. She was appointed Professor of Public Policy & Strategic Communications at the International American University, Los Angeles, in 2023 and received several professional fellowships and memberships in 2025 from organisations including the National Institute of Credit Administration, the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management, and the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria.[2]
Career
In business, she has been Managing Director/CEO of Sanchhy Nigeria Limited,[3] Zest Media and Entertainment, and Executives Cable and Electronics Company,[4] and managed a boutique in Lagos.[3] In government, she played a role in the election of Rochas Okorocha as governor of Imo State in 2011[5] and has been an advisor to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria,[5] the Police Women Unit, the Police Service Commission, and Kulfana Mining Company.[4] In 2013 she considered forming her own political party and running for the state governorship herself.[4]
She is the founder of Pre-Adult Affairs Organization, an NGO recognized by the United Nations; in 2015 she announced the launch of an associated TV programme aimed at 9–35-year-olds, Bare It Out! With Sandra Duru.[6] In 2014, the Nigerian Ambassador to Ivory Coast, Ifeoma Akabogu-Chinwuba, honoured her for her "contributions to providing solutions to the unemployment, violence and educational problems in Nigeria".[7] In 2016 she launched a new project, The Unity and Peace Project 2016–2020 (The Up Project).[8]
Awards
Duru has received many awards and some of which is the Overall Best PhD Graduating Student Merit Award from African American University (2025), Outstanding Merit Award of Excellence and Global Peace Ambassador Award from the Peace International Interdisciplinary Research Institute (2025), Outstanding Leadership in Women’s Rights & Public Policy Award from the Global Women Leaders Forum (2022), Distinguished Scholar Advocate for Gender Security from the African Policy Institute (2021), Media Impact & Social Justice Excellence Award from the West African Media Network (2019), and Anti-Corruption Advocacy Honor from Transparency International Africa (2018). She serves as peer reviewer for the African Journal of Public Administration and member of the editorial board of the Journal of Strategic Communication & Crisis Management.[9]
Personal life
In 2014 she married Emmanuel Ebuka Eulobi, a footballer;[5] their son was born in June 2016.[8]
