Sabrina Chiu Chi-lok (Chinese: 趙紫諾) is a Hong Kong classical pianist.[1]

Early life

Although reports indicate that she moved to the UK with her family in her early years,[2] Chiu refuted the claim on her personal Weibo account.[3][4]

Acting career

2008–2020

Chiu has been acting in commercials in mainland China since she was a child, and has participated in more than forty commercials,[5] among them, there is more cooperation with Gree Electric Appliances, and he has filmed different advertisements for the company with Jackie Chan and Gree Electric Appliances Chairman Dong Mingzhu.[6] In 2018, she also performed a song with the "Artificial Intelligence" band developed by Gree.[7]

In piano, Chiu began learning at the age of 4 and studied under several renowned masters; at the age of 7, she was invited to perform her own arrangement of the piece "Dreamy Starry Sky" on the CCTV program "Happy Piano Prodigies" (快乐琴童).[8] At the age of 9, she obtained the DipABRSM diploma (commonly known as the performance level) in piano from the Royal Academy of Music in the UK; she has performed on stage with Lang Lang and Li Yundi;[9][10] She held a solo concert at the age of 10; at the age of 12, she obtained the LRSM Advanced Diploma in professional performance.[11][12][13][5][14]

In terms of singing, Chiu has performed on CCTV's children's program "Children's Singing".[15]

2021 to present: Participated in "Stars Academy 2"

In 2022, Chiu, at the age of 13, participated in the TVB singing competition program "Stars Academy 2" in Hong Kong.[5][9][10] Chiu was selected by mentor Phil Lam to join the Red Team. She gained attention early in the competition for her performance of the challenging Mandarin song "Say Goodbye When It's Over" (originally sung by Jennifer Chan Wing-tung). The performance clip uploaded to YouTube became one of the top three trending videos and became the first song on the show to surpass one million views.[16][17][18] Although Chiu ultimately received the highest score from the professional judges in the finals, she ranked third in the audience vote. According to the competition rules, with 50/100 professional judges and 50/100 audience votes, she ranked third and won the bronze medal,[19] her final song, "I Want Us to Be Together" (我要我們在一起), surpassed one million views three weeks later.[20]

On November 1, 2022, a group of contestants from "Stars Academy 2" held the "Prom Night" concert at the MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok,[21] this is Chiu's first publicly ticketed concert in Hong Kong.

On November 19, 2022, Chiu attended TVB's 55th Anniversary Gala, "TVB Anniversary Gala", and sang the song "Beautiful". It was her first time attending a major television station's anniversary program.

On December 3, 2022, at the "Tung Wah Charity Gala" charity event, Chiu, along with Alan Tam and other members of the Stars Academy group, kicked off the event with a performance, receiving 1 million yuan in donations and singing the song "The True Colors of the Planet" (Chinese: 星球本色).[22][23]

On January 8, 2023, she attended the TVB Anniversary Awards 2022, walking the red carpet alongside contestants from Stars Academy 2, Jasmine Yam Hoi-ching and Janees Wong Lok-yin.[24]

On January 22, 2023, the first day of the Lunar New Year, she participated in the live broadcast program "Joyful Jade Rabbit Celebrates the New Year" [25], and together with students from Stars Academy 2 Jasmine Yam Hoi-ching and Janees Wong Lok-yin, they sang New Year's songs such as "Bless You" (祝福你), "You're the Most Popular" (你最紅), "Red Kiss" (紅噹噹飛吻), and "Welcoming Spring Flowers" (迎春花).

On March 11, 2023, she participated in "Pok Oi Charity Show 2023", singing "Chandelier" with Janees Wong, Windy Zhan, and Jasmine Yam as the opening act. She also joined several other singers in red and blue groups to perform several classic Medleys by Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui[26].

On June 3, 2023, Chiu participated in the Caritas Hong Kong fundraising event, "Walking in Love - 2023 ICBC Asia Pacific Caritas Charity Walk"[27].

On November 19, 2023, she attended the "TVB Anniversary Gala" and sang the Cantonese song "Believe Everything Is the Best Arrangement" with Windy Zhan. She also sang "Youth Anthem" and "The Original Intention" with the students of "Stars Academy". In the grand prize draw, she won a luxury car worth 259,000[28].
