Roberto Guillard Marinot (1931 – 21 August 2013) was a Chilean military officer who held ministerial, regional, and institutional leadership positions during his career.[1]

Biography

Guillard was trained at the Bernardo O'Higgins Military School and pursued a career in the Chilean Army, attaining the rank of army general. During his early service he held staff, instructional, and command assignments.

On 11 September 1973, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel, he read military communiqués from the Ministry of National Defense.[2]

Guillard later served as Undersecretary of War (1975–1978) and Director of the Army War Academy (1978–1979).[3]

He was promoted to army general in 1982.[1]

Guillard died in Santiago on 21 August 2013 at the age of 81.[4]

Public career

In 1975 Guillard was appointed Undersecretary of War, serving until 1978.[1] In 1978 he became Director of the Army War Academy.

On 22 April 1982 he was appointed Minister of Housing and Urbanism, a position he held until 10 August 1983.[1]

From 1983 to 1986 he served as Intendant of the Santiago Metropolitan Region.[1]

Over the course of his career he also served as a director of the Chilean Telephone Company, acting intendant of the former Province of Santiago, military attaché in the United States, and director of the National Mobilization Directorate between 1988 and 1990.[2]
