Rebecca Jane Hazlewood is a British actress of Anglo-Indian descent. She is known for portraying transgender prisoner Arun Parmar in the ITV drama Bad Girls (2005–2006), call centre worker Asha in the NBC sitcom Outsourced (2010–2011), and Kamilah Al-Jamil in The Good Place (2016–2020). Her film credits include Equals (2015) and The Beekeeper (2024) opposite Jason Statham. Hazlewood began her career in British television before moving to the United States. She has also appeared in Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Little America, and the 2025 miniseries The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.

Early life

Hazlewood was born in Wales and grew up in Kingswinford, West Midlands.[1] She is of Anglo-Indian descent and attended King Edward VI College in Stourbridge. She earned a BA in English Literature from Bretton Hall College, an affiliate of the University of Leeds.[2]

Career

Hazlewood was scouted by fashion designer Caryn Franklin to model on BBC's The Clothes Show while skipping school, marking her first television appearance.[3] She began acting in British television, appearing in Liverpool One (1998)[4] and Second Sight (1999). From 2001 to 2003, she had a regular role as Beena Shah in the ITV soap opera Crossroads.[5]

In 2005, she joined Bad Girls as transgender prisoner Arun Parmar for its seventh and eighth series.[1] After moving to the United States, she guest-starred as Jaspreet in ER (2008)[6] and led the independent film Kissing Cousins (2008).[7]

Her breakthrough came as Asha in the NBC sitcom Outsourced (2010–2011), which ran for one season.[8][9] Variety described her performance as "superb" and named her a breakout performer.[10] Hazlewood has since guest-starred in Lost (2009),[6] Grey's Anatomy (2012) as Dr. Mara Keaton,[6] White Collar (2013) as Dr. Reva Khatri,[11] and Room 104 (2020). From 2016 to 2020, she recurred as Kamilah Al-Jamil in the NBC comedy The Good Place.[12]

In film, she played Young Parin in The Ode (2007), Zoe in the Ridley Scott-produced Equals (2015),[13] and had a cameo in Lost in London (2017). In 2020, Hazlewood appeared as Reena in the Apple TV+ anthology series Little America. She appeared as Debbie in the 2024 action film The Beekeeper opposite Jason Statham.[14] In 2025, she starred as Stephanie Kercher in the TV miniseries The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
