Petras Baublys (May 23, 1914 – December 16, 1973) – was a Lithuanian doctor.

Biography

Baublys graduated from Vytautas Magnus University in 1936 and became a candidate of medical sciences in 1969.

From 1942 to 1944, while serving as the director of the Kaunas Children's Home , Baublys rescued children whose parents were being per. Also in 1944 he served as a lecturer at Vilnius University. From 1944 to 1954 he served as the head of the Department of Infectious and Pediatric Diseases; from 1954, associate professor. From 1950 to 1958, he was the chief pediatrician of the Ministry of Health.

Baublys has written books about caring for children.[1]

On December 16, 1973, while traveling to Kharkiv with three other Lithuanian doctors, Baublys was killed in the crash of Aeroflot Flight 2022 in Moscow Oblast. He is buried in Antakalnis Cemetery.

Awards

  • In 1977, Israel postuhumously awarded Baublys the Righteous Among the Nations medal.
  • A memorial plaque was dedicated to him in Kaunas, at Lopšelio St.
