Palisa Regio

Palisa Regio is a geological feature located on the main-belt asteroid 243 Ida.[1]

Geography

It is categorized as a "regio" (a large area with distinct color or albedo),[1] Palisa Regio has a diameter of 23 kilometers. It is slightly concave, and some scientists suggest that it might be a highly degraded ancient crater.[2] Its coordinates are 23°S 34°W.[3]

Naming

Idaean regiones (geologically distinct areas) are supposed to be named after the discoverer of the asteroid, and the places where that person worked. Palisa Regio is named after Johann Palisa, the discoverer of 243 Ida.[4]
