Odetta dekleini

Odetta dekleini is a species of very small sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Pyramidellidae, the pyrams and their allies.

Description

The shell of Odetta dekleini is characteristic of the genus Odetta, typically featuring an ovate-conic shape. Like other members of the family Pyramidellidae, this species possesses a protoconch that is heterostrophic (twisted in the opposite direction of the adult shell). The shell surface usually exhibits fine spiral sculpture and growth lines. The length of the shell typically does not exceed a few millimeters.

Distribution

This marine species occurs in the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean. It is often found in the sublittoral zone at various depths, frequently associated with the hosts upon which it feeds.

Taxonomy

The species was originally described by the Dutch malacologist J. J. van Aartsen in 1987 as Chrysallida dekleini. It was later reclassified into the genus Odetta following taxonomic revisions of the family Pyramidellidae.
