Moldova is set to be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, which will be held in Vienna, Austria, returning after a one-year absence. The Moldovan participating broadcaster, Teleradio-Moldova (TRM), will select its entrant through a national final.
Background
Prior to the 2026 contest, TeleRadio-Moldova (TRM) had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest representing Moldova nineteen times since its first entry in 2005. Its best result in the contest was third, which it achieved in 2017 with the song "Hey Mamma" performed by the Sunstroke Project. In 2024, Moldova failed to qualify for the final with the song "In the Middle" performed by Natalia Barbu.[1] The country did have plans to participate in the 2025 contest, but withdrew on 22 January 2025 due to a "detailed analysis of the current situation, as well as the economic, administrative and artistic challenges"[2]
Before Eurovision
On 3 November 2025, TRM announced its return to the 2026 contest with a revamped version of their National Final, Selecția Națională. Registration began on November 7 2025 and closed on December 7 2025. [3] On 17 December, TRM announced the 16 finalists of Selecția Națională 2026. The contest will take place on 17 January 2026, with the results being decided with 1/3 international jury, 1/3 Moldovan jury, and 1/3 from public voters. [4]
