Mohammad Namazi
Mohammad Namazi (also known as Mohammad Nemazee) was the founder of Namazi Hospital which he founded in 1955[1][2] and the first Water pipe system in Iran[3] Shiraz Water and Wastewater Company in Shiraz, Iran. He donated the company's income to the hospital. He also made Namazi Nursing School, Namazi Children's Orphanage, and Namazi Art School[4][5] He was born in Bombay[6] (officially renamed Mumbai in November 1995), in 1896.[3] He was a successful merchant who lived in the USA for many years, and died in Shiraz on 9th April 1972.[5][7]
Life
Namazi was born in Bombay[6] in 1896. He spent his childhood in China and India, and his youth in Tehran and Shiraz. In 1924, he travelled to America, and stayed there for more than 30 years. After a very successful economic career, he returned to Iran. He noticed the poor quality of the drinking water in Shiraz and in 1952 devoted part of his wealth to establishing a water supply network in the region.[1] In 1955 he founded and equipped Namazi hospital as a teaching hospital.[1][8]
At the age of 76, he died in the hospital he founded.
